The Medical Technologist Forum on Wednesday warned of a strike for indefinite period if the demand for upgrading their salary to 10th grade of pay-scale is not implemented immediately.
They issued the warning at a human chain held in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in Chowhatta area of Sylhet city at noon.
At the programme, the forum leaders said that they had been continuing with their movement for more than 30 years to achieve their basic rights but their reasonable demand is yet to be met.
The speakers questioned that if the government can give the 10th grade to other diploma professionals with equal qualifications, then why the medical technologists and pharmacists, who are the backbone of the healthcare system, are being deprived.
Mentioning the health affair adviser Nurjahan Begum’s announcement in the past year that the 10th grade of the medical technologists and pharmacists would be implemented very soon, they said that they did not go for any strike or strong movement so far respecting this assurance.
‘But it is our last moment of patience, we want no more assurances in this regard- we want a direct decision about our demand,’ the MTF leaders said.
If the ministry of public administration tries to delay in approving the 10th grade in the name of paper work, then medical technologists and pharmacists across the country will be forced to go for a strike for an indefinite period, they warned in the programme.
MTF Sylhet unit president Al Amin presided over the programme addressed, among others, by the forum advisor Umar Faruk and Golam Rabbi, general secretary Ismail Hossain, joint-secretary Abdur Razzak and Wayesh Kurni Gazi, organising secretary Ehsan Ullah Bilpab.
