At least eleven people were injured in a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami over the hanging of a party symbol at Shyampur village of Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga on Tuesday night.
Those injured from BNP include Saiful Islam Kanok, joint convener of Alamdanga Poura Juba Dal, members Shajahan and Alim, Kumari union BNP鈥檚 organisational secretary Taizel Hossain, and Ward 1 female UP member Roksana Khatun and her husband Rashidul Islam.
The injured Jamaat activists were Murad Ali, Arif Hossain, Laltu Rahman, Altu Hossain, and his daughter Fatema Khatun.
Quoting local people, Alamdanga police officer-in-charge Masudur Rahman said that the clash erupted when Jamaat activists attempted to hang their party symbol in the area, prompting an argument with BNP leader Rashidul.
Subsequently, BNP activists allegedly attacked Oltu鈥檚 home, injuring him and his daughter. Then Jamaat members retaliated resulting in a fierce clash.
On information, a team of police went to the spot and brought the situation under control, the police official said, adding that legal action would be taken after proper investigation.
Aminul Islam Rokon, general secretary of Alamdanga upazila BNP, claimed that activists affiliated with Jamaat and Awami Juba League, deliberately attacked BNP members, injuring six of them.
Shafiul Alam Bokul, Alamdanga upazila Jamaat ameer, said that the clash occurred after BNP activists and a female UP member obstructed their members from hanging the party symbol, which led to the retaliatory attacks.
Alamdanga Upazila Health Complex emergency physician Faruk Hossain said that three injured were admitted on Tuesday night and one more on Wednesday morning. Three of the injured required head sutures, while another sustained hand injuries, he added.
