Students of Dhaka College, Dhaka City College and Ideal College on Sunday reached an agreement pledging to end years of inter-college clashes that frequently spilled onto the streets of Dhaka.
For decades, students of the three institutions have been known for rivalries that often escalated into violent confrontations, causing traffic disruptions and public distress in the New Market and Science Laboratory areas.
New Market police station officer-in-charge Mahfuzul Haque told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the agreement ceremony was held at Dhaka College around 11:00am on Sunday, in the presence of the principals, teachers and police officials from the three colleges.
He said a nine-member committee would be formed, comprising three teacher representatives — one from each college — along with three student representatives and three representatives from the Dhanmondi, Kalabagan and New Market police stations.
‘I hope issues will be resolved through discussion in the future,’ he added.
Earlier, on November 9, students of Dhaka College and Ideal College had signed a similar peace agreement facilitated by OC AKM Mahfuzul Haque. City College students did not join that initiative at the time.
