A case was filed on Saturday evening with the Sutrapur police in Dhaka city against unidentified assailants over the murder of Tarik Saif Mamun, who was shot dead on November 10.

Mamun’s wife Bilkis Akhter Ripa filed the murder case five-day after his killing, said the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Lalbagh Division deputy commissioner Mollik Ahsan Uddin Sami on Sunday.

No one was named in the case, said Sami, adding that the police had already arrested five suspects, including two alleged shooters, in connection with the murder.

Mamun, who was returning after a court appearance in a murder case, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in front of Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital at Sutrapur on November 10.

The DMP Detective Branch arrested the five men in separate drives in Sylhet, Narsingdi and Dhaka on November 11.

The arrestees are Faruk Hossain Faisal, 38, Robin Ahmed alias Piyas, 25, Md Rubel, 34, Shamim Ahmed, 22, and Md Yusuf alias Jibon, 42.

Of them, Faruk and Robin allegedly opened fire on after they had been hired by ‘listed crime suspect’ Roni, the DB claimed at a press conference earlier, referring to the primary information extracted from the arrestees.

On November 12, a court in Dhaka granted four-day police remand of the five accused in an arms case filed by the Detective Branch with the Mohammadpur police.

The CCTV footage that went viral on social media showed two armed individuals were shooting at Mamun, an accused in the actor Sohel Chowdhury murder case, multiple times at close range in front of the hospital at Sutrapur.
