Leaders of different political parties on Sunday at a discussion in Dhaka demanded restoration of democratic rule following the ideals of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani.
Ganosamhati Andolan organised the discussion at the National Press Club with its chief coordinator Zonayed Saki in the chair marking the 49th anniversary of the death of Maulana Bhasani to be observed today, Monday.
Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that we must follow the ideals of Bhasani for democratic transition of the country.
He demanded that the general elections must be held in February and political parties should take part in it for establishing the rights of the people.
Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq demanded official recognition of Maulana Bhasani and his death anniversary be observed officially by the government.
Zonayed Saki said that the ideology of Bhasani was establishing rights of the oppressed people.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD senior vice-president Tania Rob said that the people of the country were eagerly waiting for the democratic transition of the country.
Bhasani Onusari Parishad chairman Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu called on the interim government to take effective steps for holding next general election in February.
Bangladesh Rashtra Sanskar Andolan president Hasnat Quaiyum demanded implementation of the spirit of July Uprising in the country.
Aamar Bangladesh Party chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju, Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur, Ganosamhati executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel, central leader Dipok Roy and others also spoke at the discussion.
