The body of a Bangladeshi national, who was shot dead by Indian’s Border Security Force at the Dona border point at Kanaighat in Sylhet on August 29, was finally returned to Bangladesh early Tuesday.

The BSF handed over the body to the Border Guard Bangladesh through a flag meeting held at the Dona border point at about 1:00am, said Kanaighat police station officer-in-charge Md Abdul Awal.

He told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the body of Abdur Rahman, 40, of Aatgram Barachatol village at Lakshiprasad-Purba union under Kanaighat upazila, was handed over to his family members in the early morning after completion of legal formalities.

On August 29 afternoon, BSF personnel opened fire on Abdur Rahman and his companions immediately after they entered into the Indian territory to bring buffaloes from that country, leaving Abdur Rahman dead on the spot and injured four others.

The incident took place just two days after the BSF reiterated its promise to bring down the number of border killings to zero.

During the 56th director general-level border conference with the Border Guard Bangladesh at the BGB headquarters in the capital Dhaka in August 25-28, BSF director general Daljit Singh Chaudhary promised to bring down the border killing to zero by adopting extra precautionary measures.
