The Coast Guard in a press release on Wednesday said that they rescued 26 Rohingyas, including women and children, at Baharchhara under Teknaf in Cox鈥檚 Bazar while they were being trafficked to Malaysia.
Based on the information, a special operation was conducted in the area by Coast Guard Outpost Baharchhara at 7:00pm on Tuesday and rescued 26 Rohingyas.
During interrogation of the rescuers, it was revealed that several organised trafficking gangs were planning to lure Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens from various parts of the country, including Teknaf, to travel to Malaysia by sea, promising them a better life abroad, high-paying jobs and cheap travel abroad.
Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to prevent human trafficking.
