The Indian Border Security Force handed over three Bangladeshis to Border Guard Bangladesh during a flag meeting at the Benipur border area under Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga Friday night.
The three, Abul Kashem, Ziaur Rahman, and Akash Folia, entered India illegally several years ago and were working there as undocumented workers, BGB officials said on Saturday.
The transfer took place near border pillar 61/7S, where BSF personnel from the Nonaganj camp handed the trio over to Subedar Md Mustafizur Rahman of BGB’s 58th Battalion. They were later handed over to Jibannagar Police Station.
The three individuals were attempting to re-enter Bangladesh on Thursday with the help of a broker when BSF personnel chased them, said Jibannagar police station officer-in-charge Mamun Hossain.
They fled to Nonaganj village on the Indian side but were later detained during a raid and taken to the Nonaganj BSF camp.
‘The BGB handed the three to us Friday night. We have informed their families. Once their relatives arrive, they will be released in their custody,’ the OC added.
