Consumer rights activists seized more than 300 kilograms of rotten hilsa brought from Manpura in Bhola for sale and fined Tk 1 lakh to the owner at the Chandpur Fisheries Centre on Wednesday.

The national consumer rights protection department and joint forces seized the rotten hilsa fish and fined Helal Majhi of Monpura, said Abdullah Al Imran, assistant director at the district office of the NCRPD.


The accused promised to refrain from committing such irregularities again.

During this time, the spoiled and rotten hilsa fish were destroyed by pouring kerosene and burying it on the ground.

President of Chandpur Fisheries Merchants Cooperative Association Abdul Bari Jamadar Manik and other fish traders, representative of the District Fisheries Department Farhana Akhtar Ruma and a team of joint forces provided overall support in the operation.

Such operations will continue in the public interest, Abdullah Al Imran added.
