The Indian Border Security Force returned a Bangladeshi farmer to Border Guard Bangladesh after a flag meeting at the Kathuli border area of sadar upazila in Meherpur early Friday.
The meeting took place around 12:50am along the border, with a six-member BGB delegation led by Subedar Mizanur Rahman, company commander of Kathuli BGB Camp, and the BSF side was headed by assistant commandant Ansh Kumar, company commander of Routhbari BSF Camp.
Both sides discussed routine border management issues, following which the BSF handed over Iqbal Hossain, 38, a resident of Kathuli area.
According to BGB sources, Iqbal was detained by the BSF on Thursday afternoon after allegedly crossing the zero line while cutting grass in Kutubpur field, approximately 100 yards inside Indian territory.
Following coordination between border authorities, it was decided to resolve the matter through the standard flag meeting protocol.
Iqbal was returned to BGB custody around 1:00am and later released to his family.
