
Independence Award-winning writer and educationist Professor Jatin Sarkar died while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College on Thursday. He was 89.
Jatin Sarkar, also the former president of cultural organisation Bangladesh Udichi Shipligoshthi, breathed his last at about 2:45pm, according to the deputy director of Mymensingh Medical College Md Zakiul Islam.
Jatin Sarkar was admitted to the hospital on August 8.
He was suffering from various complications, including kidney and old age ailments, said Zakiul Islam.
His body is now kept at the Udichi Mymensingh unit premises for paying last respects.
Born on August 18, 1936, Jatin Sarkar received the Independence Award in 2010 and Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2007.
Jatin Sarkar will be cremated at his ancestral village in Netrokona tonight.
