
Cleaners of Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation have officially began removing waste of sacrificial animals on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims.
Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, inaugurated DSCC鈥檚 waste removal activities around 12:30pm on Saturday at the Kolabagan Secondary Transfer Station.
Later, at about 1:30pm, he also launched DNCC鈥檚 clean-up operation at Agargaon, near the National Museum of Science and Technology.
Both city corporations have announced that they will remove sacrificial animal waste on a daily basis during Eid.
To tackle the clean-up effort, DSCC deployed 10,267 cleaners along with 207 dump trucks, 200 mini trucks, and other cleaning equipment, aiming to remove about 30,000 tonnes of waste within 12 hours.
Additionally, DSCC distributed 1.4 lakh biodegradable bags, 40 tonnes of bleaching powder, and 222 gallons of disinfectant across its 75 wards.
Similarly, DNCC also deployed nearly 10,000 cleaners, 224 dump trucks, 381 pickup vans, and 24 payloaders to remove an estimated 20,000 tonnes of waste.
DNCC provided 12.5 lakh polythene bags, 2,500 sacks of bleaching powder, and 4,000 cans of disinfectant.
DSCC Administrator Shahjahan Mia and DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz were also present at the respective inauguration ceremonies.

About 700,000 animals will be sacrificed in the two city corporations of Dhaka during Eid-ul-Azha which will generate at least half a million tons of waste.
