Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, on Saturday.

The national moon sighting committee announced the Eid day this year after sighting the moon of the Islamic month of Zilhajj on May 28.


Eid-ul-Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah鈥檚 command.

Muslims across the country will mark the day with prayers and the ritual of animal sacrifice, distributing meat among family, friends, and the underprivileged.

This year, more than 1.24 crore animals were ready for sacrifice during the Eid-ul-Azha, Farida Akhter, the fisheries and livestock adviser, said while addressing a press conference at the Secretariat on May 4.

Beginning on Wednesday, the 10-day Eid holiday will continue until June 14. During the Eid holiday, all government and private offices, banks, and factories will remain closed.

Islamic Foundation on Friday said that five Eid-ul-Azha congregations would be held on Saturday at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque this year, as ever.

The congregational prayers will be held at 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am, and 10:45am.聽

The country鈥檚 largest Eid congregation will be held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj at 9:00am. In Chattogram, the main Eid congregation will take place at the Jamiatul Falah National Mosque at 7:30am, while the main Eid prayers in Rajshahi will be held at 7:30am at the Hazrat Shah Makhdum (R) Central Eidgah ground.

In Khulna, the main Eid congregation will be held at the Circuit House ground at 7:30am.

In Barishal, the main Eid congregation will take place at the Hemayet Uddin Central Eidgah ground on Band Road at 7:30am.

In Sylhet, the main Eid prayer will be held at the Shahi Eidgah ground at 8:00am. In Rangpur, the main Eid congregation will be held at the Collectorate Eidgah ground at 8:00am.

In Mymensingh, the main Eid prayers will take place at the Anjuman Eidgah ground at 7:30am.
