The Bangladesh University Grants Commission Officers’ Association has proposed to set the maximum basic salary of government employees at 1 lakh 50 thousand and the minimum at 30 thousand taka in the new salary structure.
In addition, the organisation has submitted 15 proposals to the National Pay Commission, including 10 per cent salary increase per year, 100 per cent pension benefits and gratuity increase.
These proposals were presented at a meeting of the UGC Officers Association with the National Pay Commission at the conference room of the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday, said a press release.
UGC officers’ association president Md Omar Farooq, vice-president Md Abdul Mannan, general secretary Md Mohibul Ahsan, organising and publicity secretary Rabiul Islam and treasurer Morshed Ahmed attended the meeting.
The association has proposed that the house rent be at least 75 per cent of the basic salary in Dhaka city corporation areas, 60 per cent in other city corporation areas and 50 per cent in other places.
A monthly medical allowance of Tk 5,000 has been proposed for officers and employees and Tk 7,500 monthly for retired employees. In addition, the association has also proposed the introduction of a comprehensive health insurance for government employees.
Regarding transport facilities, it is proposed to provide a monthly transport allowance of Tk 2000 for employees of grades 11–20.
In addition, it is proposed to provide interest-free loans for car purchase and vehicle maintenance allowance to all services such as the administration cadre, judicial service, election commission, legislative and drafting department and grade 5 and above officers of state-owned banks.
It is proposed to introduce education support allowance of Tk 2,500 per child per month and Tk 5,000 for a maximum of two children, and entertainment allowance and domestic servant allowance for officers of 9th grade and above.
In addition, pension benefits have been increased from 21-90 per cent to 40-100 per cent, gratuity has been increased from 265/260/245/230 to 330/320/310/300, recreation leave has been increased from 3 years to 2 years, Bengali New Year allowance has been increased to the same amount as the basic salary, ration benefits, one-time pension benefits and tax-free income limit have been increased.
