Unidentified miscreants riding a motorbike hurled two crude bombs near the residence of environment, forest and climate change affairs adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan in the capital’s Central Road area around 9:00pm on Sunday.

The bombs exploded before the attackers fled the scene, said New Market police station officer-in-charge AKM Mahfuzul Haque. No casualties were reported, he added. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved.

Arson and crude bomb attacks continued in parts of the capital and elsewhere on Sunday amid heightened security measures ahead of Monday’s verdict against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

A series of crude bomb blasts and arson attacks on buses have been reported in Dhaka and several districts since the night of November 7, after the Awami League announced a ‘Dhaka Lockdown’ programme on social media for November 13.

On that day, the International Crimes Tribunal fixed Monday for delivering the verdict in the case filed over crimes against humanity linked to the July Uprising murder charges against Hasina and her aides.

Ahead of the verdict, the AL has again announced fresh programmes online, while arson and crude bomb attacks on vehicles, establishments and offices continued on Sunday.
