Leaders of the Bangladesh Jasod on Sunday urged the government of Pakistan to offer an apology for committing atrocities on the unarmed people of Bangladesh during the war of independence in 1971.

The party, protesting against visiting Pakistani deputy prime minister and foreign minister Muhammad Ishak Dar’s comments that brotherly confrontation occurred in 1971, also demanded trial of the responsible military personnel for the atrocities.

The party president, Sharif Nurul Ambia, and general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan, in a joint press statement, said that Pakistan must change their attitude regarding Bangladesh’s war of independence and should offer an apology to the Bangladesh government for their atrocities.

The relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan cannot be developed without offering an apology by the latter, they said.
