Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance and the Antifascism Left Alliance at a protest rally on Monday called on the interim government to refrain from leasing out Chattogram port services to a foreign company.

LDA coordinator Bazlur Rashid Firoz, also general secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh, said that the interim government was going to lease out services of the Chattogram port to a foreign company, which would go against the national interests.


Bazlur chaired the rally held near the Bangladesh secretariat in the capital Dhaka.

He said that the government was also planning to lease out services of another port to a foreign company by December.

The left leader called on the interim government to refrain from leasing out services of the ports to the foreign companies.

Communist Party of Bangladesh president Sazzad Zahir Chandan, Revolutionary Communist League general secretary Iqbal Kabir Jahid, Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, Antifascism Left Alliance coordinator Subhrangshu Chakrobartty and SPB (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana, among others, spoke at the rally.

Leaders and activists of the LDA, a combine of six left parties, and the Antifascism Left Alliance gathered in front of the National Press Club and later marched towards the secretariat.

Police stopped the marchers near Zaro Point.

The leaders and activists held a rally there.
