The budget allocation for the entire education sector increased by Tk 933 crore in the proposed national budget for the financial year 2025–2026.

Allocation for primary-level education has been reduced while the allocation for secondary-level, technical, and madrassah education has been increased in 


Bangladesh interim government finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on Monday started to present the budget in a televised speech which went on air at 3:00pm.

He proposed national budget for FY2025–26 at an estimated Tk 7,90,000 crore.

This is the first budget by the interim government, which was sworn following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina lead Awami League government on August 5, 2024 following the July mass uprising.

In his budget speech, Salehuddin proposed to allocate Tk 35,403 crore for the primary and mass education ministry, which was Tk 38,819 crore in FY25.

He also proposed to allocate Tk 47,563 crore for the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry, which was Tk 44,109 crore in FY25.

The finance adviser also proposed to allocate Tk 12,678 crore in FY26 for the Technical and Madrassah Education Division under the education ministry, which was Tk 11,783 crore in FY25.
