Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has described Ziaur Rahman as the ‘pride of the working people’ and called for united efforts to restore democracy in Bangladesh.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and Eid gift distribution ceremony, organised by the BIWTC Employees Union, marking Ziaur Rahman’s 44th death anniversary, at BIWTC Bhaban in Dhaka’s Banglamotor on Tuesday, said a press release.

Rizvi said that even though the fallen dictator Hasina had fled, the anti-national conspiracies continued.

The event, chaired by the BIWTC Employees Union’s president Niaz Ahmed and moderated by general secretary Md Alauddin, was attended, among others, by BNP’s co-organising secretary Professor Aminul Islam, assistant labour affairs secretary Humayon Kabir Khan, Sramik Dal vice-president Mehedi Ali Khan, finance secretary Rafiqul Islam, publicity and publication secretary Manjurul Islam Manju, assistant publicity and publication secretary Mofidul Islam Mohan, former general secretary of the Metropolitan South Sramik Dal Mahbubul Alam Badal.

Rizvi praised the union’s historic role in the national labour movement and urged it to continue fighting injustice and corruption in line with Ziaur Rahman’s ideals.
