Bangladesh suffered a 10-wicket thrashing to defending champions Australia in their ICC Women鈥檚 Cricket World Cup at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh managed 198-9 in 50 overs, after a hard-fought fifty from Sobhana Mostary. In reply, Alyssa Healy smashed her second consecutive hundred, taking Australia to 202-0 in 24.5 overs聽

Alyssa and Phoebe Litchfield formed an unbeaten 202-run partnership to secure their fourth straight win and book their spot in the semi-finals.聽

Bangladesh dropped to sixth spot in the points table with four straight defeats in five matches.

Chasing the target, Alyssa hit a 77-ball 113with 20 boundaries, and was accompanied by Phoebe, who contributed 84 off 72 with 12 fours and a six.

Bangladesh tried six bowlers but none could give the breakthrough.

Earlier, Bangladesh made a promising start with openers Farzana Hoque and Rubya Haider putting a 32-run partnership until Megan Schutt drew an edge from Farzana (8), which was taken at slip.

Rubya then formed another 41-run partnership with Sharmin Akhter to give them a short reprieve, but gave her wicket away with a catch off Ashleigh Gardner, falling short of just six runs to get her second half-century, as she made 44 off 59 with eight boundaries.

Sharmin (19) also fell prey to Gardner, while skipper Nigar Sultana Joty (12) wobbled against spinner Alana King.聽

King kept Bangladesh in check with four maidens; however, a spirited 66 off 80 balls from Sobhana lifted Bangladesh from the face of adversity.

Sobhana took the helm of the side while wickets continued to tumble, the right-handed batter struck nine boundaries and reached her second fifty in 67 balls to guide Bangladesh to their highest ODI total against Australia.

King finished with 2-18 and later adjudged as the player of the match while Gardner took 2-48, Annabel Sutherland (2-41) and Georgia Greham (2-22) to clean up the lower order.

Bangladesh will next play Sri Lanka on October 20.
