The interim government on Monday said that the council of advisers will continue to perform its routine duties and hold meetings as usual until it hands over the charge to an elected government.

The chief adviser’s press wing issued a statement following some comments made by information and broadcasting adviser Mahfuj Alam at the ‘Meet the Reporters’ event organised by the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday.

Mahfuj at the event said that the Media Reform Commission had placed 23 immediately implementable recommendations and the information ministry had implemented 13 of them.

He also said that there would be no cabinet meetings after November.

‘So, all the pending tasks have to be completed by that time because there will be no scope for making any policy decision once the Election Commission announces polls schedule,’ he said.

The press wing in the statement said that certain comments of the information adviser about the activities of the Council of Advisers had created some confusion after being published in the media.

Practically, it is not correct that the government’s ongoing reform initiatives and policy formulation should be completed by November, it said, adding that the reform activities would rather continue in full swing.

The council of advisers will continue to perform its routine duties and its meetings will be held regularly until the government hands over the charge to an elected government, the statement added.
