A ward level leader of Juba Dal, youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was hacked to death in Kahaloo upazila of Bogura Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 2:00pm at UttarPara of Magura village under Malancha union of the upazila.
The deceased is Rahul Sarker, 35, organising secretary of ward no-13 of Bogura city Juba Dal and son of the late Abdus Sobahan Sarker of Kaigari area in Shajahanpur upazila, said Wasim Reza, publicity secretary of Bogura city Juba Dal.
Inspector for investigation of Kahaloo police station Mahbubur Rahman said that Rahul went to UttarPara village to fish in a leased pond. While fishing with a rod, a group of assailants armed with sharp weapons attacked him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College morgue for autopsy, he said, suspecting that a past personal dispute led to the killing.
Wasim Reza demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment.
