A man from the Chakma community was killed, and his wife was allegedly raped by a fellow on Saturday night.
The police on Sunday arrested a man identified as Birel Chakma, hailing from Rangamati, who had been living in Cox鈥檚 Bazar for work.
Media officer of Cox鈥檚 Bazar district police, additional superintendent of police, traffic, Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, said that the incident occurred before midnight on Saturday in the Kolatoli area of the beach town.
Authorities later recovered the body of the man named Ranjan Chakma, believed to be around 50 years old, he said.
鈥楾he body is kept at Cox鈥檚 Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the victim鈥檚 wife, the rape survivor, is currently receiving treatment,鈥� ADC Jasim said.
He said that the woman filed a case against the accused on murder and rape charges.
According to the police鈥檚 preliminary investigation, Birel had been making inappropriate advances toward the woman, but she rejected him.
Later on Saturday night, during a drinking session, an altercation broke out between Ranjan and Birel.
At one stage, Birel struck Ranjan on the head with a sharp weapon, killing him instantly, before raping the woman.
