A July uprising injured victim on Sunday expressed doubt over getting justice regarding a ‘false’ case filed by a person in Dhaka in his name, claiming that he was actually injured in Chattogram and filed a case there in that connection.
Gazetted injured victim Saifuddin Muhammad Emdad at a press conference held at the National Press Club in the capital Dhaka alleged that claiming himself a human rights activist, the person named MA Hashem Raju filed the ‘false’ case in the capital Dhaka on behalf of him (Emdad) in a move to hatch a conspiracy to make the July fighters questionable.
The July uprising ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.
Emdad claimed that he served a legal notice on Raju on June 28, 2025, to withdraw the case, but Raju had not responded to it yet.
Case documents showed that plaintiff Raju on behalf of Emdad on March 20 filed the case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court against 201 named individuals, including deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her former information adviser Sajeeb Wazed and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, and 205-300 unidentified individuals over carrying out an attack on Emdad on August 4, 2024, in front of the InterContinental Hotel in the capital.
In Chattogram, Emdad on June 17 filed a case with the Khulshi police station against 167 named individuals, mainly AL leaders and activists and also some businesspeople, over carrying out an attack on him on August 5, 2024, in the port city’s Khulshi area, showed Emdad’s case documents.
Emdad’s case documents also showed that he was in protests in Chattogram’s New Market area on August 4, 2024.
He claimed that he participated in protests in Dhaka from July 15 to 20 and went to Chattogram on July 28 and continued protests there.
Emdad at the press conference claimed that police submitted the final report on his case within 22 days of filling it mentioning that he was not present at the scene during the time mentioned in the case.
‘I, however, have submitted a petition seeking further investigation,’ said Emdad.
At the press conference, he demanded a judicial investigation into the submission of the final report on his case within such a short period of time.
Regarding the issue, Raju told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he filed the case as Emdad gave him the power of attorney and he did not receive any legal notice from him to withdraw the case.
‘Emdad is doing these as he is biased to some accused in the case. He is trying to dismiss the case,’ Raju alleged.
