The two-day workshop on updating the university curriculum on social and behavioural change jointly organised by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and UNICEF concluded at Rajendrapur BRAC CDM in Gazipur on Monday.

UGC member Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain was present as chief guest while UGC members Professor Masuma Habib and Professor Mohammad Ayub Islam spoke as special guests at the closing ceremony of the workshop, said a press release.


Jesmin Pervin, director, current responsibilities, International Cooperation Department, UGC, presided over the event.

Various sessions of the workshop were conducted by associate professor Syed Tanvir Rahman of Dhaka University, associate professor Sarkar Barbak Karmal of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and SBC programme manager of UNICEF Md Badrul Hasan.

Anwar Hossain suggested incorporating the concept of communication for development and the needs of the backward communities in the SBC curriculum.

He said that the UGC would take the initiative to create a curriculum template with the help of UNICEF and university teachers in this regard and implement it.

Masuma Habib said that the initiative to create a curriculum on social and behavioural changes was very timely. She advised the university authorities to formulate the SBC curriculum by following their needs and the UGC's guidelines in this regard.

Ayub Islam said that the curriculum developed on SBC could be implemented as an independent degree, a course included in the existing degree curriculum or a certificate course.

Masuma Habib and Mohammad Ayub Islam handed over the certificates to the recipients at the event.
