
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has issued flood warning for the low-lying areas in the river basins in Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Kurigram districts over a 72-hour period starting at 9:00am Friday.
The flood warning came through its bulletin issued on August 8 at 9:00am.
The centre also predicted heavy rainfall during the same period in Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions.
On the day, the FFWC said that in the next two days the water level of the Teesta River was likely to reach the warning level in the same period.
As a result, flood situation might occur in low-lying areas along the river basins in Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Kurigram.
Over the next three days, the water levels of the rivers Dharla, Dudhkumar, Someshwari, Bhugai, Surma, Kusiyara, Padma, Ganges and Kongsho may reach near the warning level.
The FFWC in its warning said that the water levels of all major rivers were flowing below the danger level on Saturday.
In Chattogram division, the water levels of the Gomti, Feni, Selonia, Muhuri, Halda and Sangu rivers may rise within the next 24 hours,
Within the next 24 hours, water levels in the Muhuri, Selonia, and Noakhali Canal may rise to the warning level, which could temporarily inundate low-lying areas of Feni and Noakhali districts.
In Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, over the next one day, water levels in the Atrai, Korotoa and Mahananda rivers may rise, according to the warning.
On the same day, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast for the next 120 hours commencing at 6:00pm Saturday: light to moderate rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind at many places over Rangpur division; at a few places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions; moderately heavy to heavy fall at places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
