A 22-year-old woman was raped allegedly by three drivers of CNG-run auto-rickshaws in Tangail early Saturday.
The police said that they arrested the three suspects Saturday morning. Â
The arrestees are Dulal Chandra Das, 28, son of Sentu Chandra Das of the Brahmankusia Sutar Para area under Tangail Sadar police station, Sajib Khan, 19, son of Halim Khan, and Rupu Mia, 27, son of late Kismat Mia.
According to the police, the woman travelled from Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria to the Railway Station near Dhaka Airport Friday night.
She was scheduled to go to Chittagong but mistakenly boarded a North Bengal-bound express train.
Discovering that she had arrived in Tangail, the woman got off the train at Gharinda Railway Station in Tangail at about 12:30am on Saturday.
When the woman informed the Government Railway Police about her situation, a police member asked Dulal to help her board a train back to Dhaka.
However, instead of helping her, Dulal took her to a woodshed behind the station and raped her.
Later, she was taken to the house of another accused, Rupu Mia, in Brahmankusia, an area near the station, where she was raped again by both Rupu and Sajib.
In the morning, the woman returned to the railway station and reported the rape incident to the railway police, who then alerted the local police station. The police conducted a raid and arrested all three accused in the morning.
The woman filed a case with the police station.
Tangail police station officer-in-charge Tanvir Ahmed said, ‘We have received the complaint. We arrested all three suspects.’
