Unidentified assailants hacked a trader to death in the Nirala area under Sadar police station in Khulna city Monday night.
The diseased is Zakir Hossain, 45, son of Latif Hawladar, of Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat district. He used to live in the Nirala area of the city.
The police, referring to the locals, said that the assailants hacked Zakir in front of a furniture shop adjacent to Nirala Kitchen Market and left the place, leaving him in a pool of blood.
They said that the locals rescued him and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The police said that the assailants hacked him in the back and in the belly.
Khulna Sadar police station officer-in-charge Hawladar Sanwar Hossain Masum said that the victim鈥檚 brother filed a case accusing unidentified miscreants.
The complaint alleged that Zakir was killed over a previous enmity.
OC Sanwar said that the police were trying to arrest the assailants and seize the sharp weapons used in the murder.
