The police have arrested four individuals for their suspected involvement in extortion in the capital鈥檚 Mirpur area.
The arrested are Anwar Hossain Tabid, 35, Md Mintu Mia, 35, Md Ratan Mia, 34, and Md Ismail Hossain, 24. They were arrested from a house called Pratik Villa in West Manipur around 3:00am on Monday, said a police press release.
A gang of eight to 10 unidentified people, including the four arrestees, attacked the house in West Manipur on Sunday night, and took the residents of the house hostage and demanded a ransom of Tk 20 lakh.
The residents of the house had to pay them Tk 5 lakh through various ways.
Being informed, the police went to the place of occurrence and arrested four of the gang members from the scene and seized Taka 16,000 from their possessions and seized a motorcycle used in the criminal acts.
Other members of the gang managed to flee the scene.聽
A regular case has been registered with the Mirpur model police station in this connection.
