Bangladesh reported 429 more dengue hospitalisations in the past 24 hours till Monday 8:00am, marking the highest single-day count so far this year.

The number of deaths remained at 42, with no new fatalities reported during this period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services press release.


Earlier on June 23, Bangladesh recorded 392 dengue hospitalisations in a day.

Including the latest, Bangladesh has seen 10,296 dengue-related hospital admissions this year.

Of the latest hospitalisations, the highest concentration—149 patients—was in the Barishal division.

Besides, 57 were admitted to hospitals in Chattogram, 61 in Dhaka division, 42 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 45 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 21 in Khulna and 54 in Rajshahi.

Currently, 1,167 dengue patients are receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

Of this year’s hospitalisations, 5, 951 people were hospitalised in June till Monday 8:00am and 19 people died of dengue at the same time.

A total of 1,161 people were hospitalised in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April and 1,773 in May.

At the same time, 10 people died of dengue in January, three in February, no one died in March, seven in April and three in May.

The vector-borne disease dengue has arisen as a serious public health concern in the country in the past several years.

A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to the DGHS data.

Dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people and sent 3, 21,179 others to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2, 44,246 hospitalisations between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.

In the past year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 1,01,214 reported cases. A total of 1,00,040 patients recovered during the period.
