
A man has been arrested in Chattogram on charges of raping a teenage girl for several months in confinement after he had abducted her from Hatiya upazila in Noakhali.
Arrested Jahed Hasan, 37, is son of Jahangir Alom of Charfakir village in Sonadia union of Hatiya.
A press release issued by the Rapid Action Battalion referred to RAB-11 acting company commander senior police super Mithun Kumar Kundu, saying that Jahed was arrested on Saturday evening in a joint drive at Sakotola Bazar in Voktopur union of Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram.
Mentioning Jahed as a father of three and a neighbour of the victim, the release said that he abducted the girl by spraying an anaesthetic substance when she went to a field near her house sometime around 7:15am on January 6.
Jahed took her to a place behind a shop named Golaippa on Kaptai Road in Chattogram, and keeping her confined he raped her. He also stabbed her with knife when she resisted.
According to the release, Jahed made repeated attempts to kill the girl by drowning her in river and pushing her under train. He also forced her into abortion at three months into pregnancy.聽
A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the Hatiya police against three people. Arrested Jahed has been handed over to the Hathazari police in Chattogram, the RAB press release adds.
