The arrested people used to cheat people alluring them to get rid of from the cases with the ACC introducing them as ACC chairman, director general and other high officials, said ACC director general (prevention) Md Akhter Hossain at a press briefing on Sunday.
He said a high resolution camera, boom, selfi-stick, passports, name cards, cheque books, six mobile sets, two passports and 13 SIM cards were recovered from their possessions after the arrest.
DG Akhter Hossain said that a facebook status of Hasnat Abdullah, key organizer (South) of the National Citizens Party, has been drawn the attention of the ACC.
Then, the ACC decided to conduct inquiry into the allegation made by Hasnat Abdullah and formed a five-member probe committee headed by a director of the commission.
As part of the inquiry, the inquiry team led by ACC director identified the gang and arrested them from the capital.
The arrested persons are-Md Selim,40, son of Abdus Sattar Kabir, Badalkhali in Pirozpur, Md Tariqul Islam,40, son of Md Mujibar Rahman Sheikh of Keshrampur village under Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat, Md Atik,38, son of Md Abul Kashem of 448 South Manda under Mudga Thana and Abdul Hay Sohag,35, son of Abdur Rab and hailed from Shayestha Nagar village under Senbagh Thana in Noakhali.
The ACC has already lodged a case against the arrested persons.
On June 24 night, Hasnat posted a Facebook status, attached with three video clips, claiming, ‘In independent Bangladesh, ACC’s tea bill is Tk 1 lakh.’
He alleged that although there were no formal allegations of graft against a person, ACC clearance was being offered in exchange for Tk1 lakh.
In the post he wrote, ‘Recently, Mahamuda Mitu was asked for this money by someone in the name of ACC’s DG Akhtar and his deputy. She was told, ‘You are a doctor, you shouldn’t have any shortage of money — just pay Tk 1 lakh and get the clearance.’
Amid criticism over the facebook post, the ACC earlier issued a statement clarifying that no ACC official was involved in such misconduct.
