Police arrested two women with five kilograms of heroin in their possession in the Sultanganj Gangabari Roadpara area under the Godagari municipality in Rajshahi early Saturday.

The arrested are Najma Begum, 53, of Sultanganj Gangabari Roadpara area, and Tahmina Begum Minu, 55, of Prithimpassa village under Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar.


Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Godagari model police station, said that Tahmina had travelled from Moulvibazar to Godagari on Friday to collect heroin from Najma at Godagari.

‘Acting on a tip-off, a team of police arrested the duo while they were exchanging the heroin, worth Tk 5 crore, at around 6:00am on Saturday,’ the OC said.

A police officer lodged a case with the police station against the two under the Narcotics Control Act, the OC said, adding that the arrested two were sent to jail through a court order in the afternoon.
