The final phase of the 14th national undergraduate mathematics Olympiad-2023 and the 5th International Mathematics Day-2024, jointly organised by the Bangladesh Mathematics Association and AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation, were held at the mathematics department of Dhaka University on Friday.

DU vice-chancellor professor ASM Maksud Kamal inaugurated the day-long Olympiad as chief guest, said a press release.


Chairman of mathematics department and president of Bangladesh Mathematics Association professor Md Shahidul Islam presided over the opening ceremony, where science faculty dean Md Abdus Samad, convener of the Olympiad committee professor Shapla Shirin and secretary of mathematics association professor Mohammad Babul Hasan were present as special guests.

The International Mathematical Union has set the theme for Mathematics Day 2024 – ‘Playing with Mathematics’.

Eminent mathematicians, including professor Mohammad Kaykobad, answered students’ question in the closing session.

In the afternoon, DU pro-VC (administration) Muhammad Samad was the chief guest in the award-giving ceremony, where trustee of AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation M Nurul Alam, professor Md Monirul Alam Sarkar, Md Tajul Islam were present as special guests.

A total of 80 contestants of the best 10 from each region participated in the final phase of the Olympiad and about 200 students from schools, colleges and universities participated in the International Mathematics Day.

The top 10 contestants of the Olympiad final phase awarded with certificates, crests and cash prizes. Besides, 5 students of schools, colleges, and universities awarded certificates and crests on International Mathematics Day.
