Family and friends of Shib Narayan Das hand over his donated body to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University authorities on the campus on Sunday. | — Press release

The donated body of freedom fighter Shib Narayan Das, one of the original designers of the first national flag of Bangladesh, was handed over to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Sunday.

The chairman of anatomy department of BSMMU professor Dr Laila Anjuman Banu received the body in presence of the vice-chancellor of the university professor Dr Deen Md Nurul Haque, said a press release.


Shib Narayan Das, a resident of Cumilla, died while undergoing treatment in the ICU of BSMMU Friday morning. He donated his body to the university.

BSMMU VC Deen Md Nurul Haque appreciated such a noble initiative and expressed gratitude to family members of posthumous body donor Shib Narayan Das, including his son Arnab Aditya Das, for the sacrifice.

He said that Shib Narayan Das donated his two corneas that had already been successfully transplanted to two patients at BSMMU.

‘Through this donation of the body of Shib Narayan, 100 foreign students of this university and 4,807 students, taking higher education in medical profession, will benefit in receiving training,’ Nurul Haque added.

Arnab Aditya said that his father Shib Narayan wanted to see the country rich in education. He and his mother had also committed to posthumous organ donation.

Jasod leader Shirin Akhtar, BSMMU pro-VC professor Dr Md Saif Uddin Ahmed, treasurer professor Dr Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, registrar professor Dr ABM Abdul Hannan, proctor professor Dr Md Habibur Rahman Dulal, wife of Shib Narayan Das Geetashree Chowdhury, among others, were present.
