Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam at a workshop at the BMU in Dhaka on Monday said that evidence-based medical care practice would reduce the variation in prescriptions and medical costs.
He made the remarks while presenting a keynote at the workshop titled Development of Evidence-Based Protocols for Gynaecological Cancer Management at the Lecture Hall of the Super Specialised Hospital, said a press release.
‘Evidence-based medical care practice involves providing proper medical care by considering the best research evidence, the experience and evaluation of experts, and the rights of the patient,’ he said.
He added, ‘If treatment is ensured in the light of accurate information and research, it will be possible to reduce unnecessary medical costs and variation in prescriptions, and even the mortality rate of the patient.’
Therefore, it is necessary to adopt and practice evidence-based medicine by all doctors, considering the benefits of patients, he mentioned.
The chief guest of the workshop was the BMU pro-VC, administration, Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad.
The special guests were the treasurer of BMU, Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar, and gynaecologist, Professor Dr Sabera Khatun.
The workshop, jointly organised by the gynaecological oncology department of BMU, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital in the United States, was presided over by chairperson of the gynaecological oncology department, Professor Dr Jannatul Ferdous.
