The Government of Bangladesh on Friday strongly protested and condemned the brutal beating and killing of three Bangladeshi citizens by a mob in Tripura, India on October 15.

‘This heinous act is an unacceptable and grave violation of human rights and the rule of law. The Government of Bangladesh expresses its serious concern over this deplorable incident and calls upon the Government of India to conduct an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident and take sincere efforts to stop recurrence of such inhumane acts,’ said a press release issued by the foreign ministry in Dhaka.


It said that the perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice.

The Government of Bangladesh underscored that all individuals, irrespective of their nationality, were entitled to the full protection of their human rights, regardless of which side of the border they may inadvertently find themselves in, the release mentioned.

As three Bangladeshis were killed by Indian nationals in a bordering area of Khowai district in the Indian state of Tripura on Wednesday, October 15, the bodies of those three were returned to the country, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Staff Correspondent reported from Sylhet.

Chunarughat police station officer-in-charge Md Zahidul Islam said that Indian border security force handed over the victims’ bodies to Bangladesh police through a flag meeting held at around 10-00pm Wednesday along Balla border point at Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj.

The deceased were Pandit Miah, 45, son of Kona Miah of Basulla village at Gazipur union under Chunarughat upazila in the district, Jewel Miah, 32, son of Ashwab Ali of Alinagar village, and Sajal Miah, 20, son of Quaddus Miah of Kavilashpur village, at the same area, police said.

A member of the union council, Tarequr Rahman, told reporters on Thursday that the relatives of the victims identified them after seeing their photos sent by Indian authorities Wednesday night. 

Earlier, the trio had entered into Karengichhara, a border point in the Khowai district on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, a group of people of hill tribe attacked them at Bidyabil area, a place around 5 kilometre inside India from the borderline, in the Khowai district suspecting them to be cattle lifters and hacked them to death on the spot.
