Leaders of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad on Saturday at a human chain formed in Dhaka city demanded exemplary punishments for those responsible for death of 16 workers of a garment factory in Mirpur.

SKOP, a coalition of 14 labour right bodies, formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club led by joint convener Abdul Kader Hawlader.


Abdul Kader Hawlader called on interim government to find out the people who are responsible for the death of 16 garment workers in a fire in a garment factory in Mirpur on Tuesday and to ensure exemplary punishments after trials.

Labour leader Mahbubul Alam said that the owners of the garment factory and warehouse with explosive materials were responsible for the death of the workers as they did not ensure safety measures of the establishments.

Another labour leader Razequzzaman Ratan called on the interim government to take steps for ensuring safety of the workers in their workplaces.

Labour leaders Saifuzzaman Badsha, Mohammad Shah Alam, Azizun Nahar, Ahsan Habib Bulbul and others spoke at the human chain rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded several city roads.
