A fire broke out at the cargo section of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

Airport authorities said the airport’s own fire unit, along with teams from the Bangladesh Air Force and other relevant agencies, rushed to the spot and launched a joint operation to douse the flames.


According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the fire was reported around 2:30pm.

‘A total of 37 firefighting units are currently working to control the blaze,’ said Talha Bin Zasim, station officer at the Fire Service media cell, around 3:40pm.

No immediate reports of casualties or damage were available.

Meanwhile, flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended following the incident, airport officials said.
