A journalist died, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest, while he was covering the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election at Curzon Hall on the campus on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased, Tarikul Shibli, 40, was a city reporter for Channel S Television.

He collapsed while reporting live from Curzon Hall at about 1:30pm, according to his colleagues.

Fellow journalist Sohel Rana, who was on-site, said that Shibli suddenly lost consciousness during a live broadcast.

He was immediately rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, he said.

DMCH police camp outpost in-charge Md Faruk said that doctors suspected cardiac arrest as the preliminary cause of the death.

However, the exact cause would be confirmed following an autopsy report, he said, adding that the body was kept at the DMCH mortuary.
