The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Sunday said that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s demand to exclude officials of various service-oriented and non-political organisations from duties in the next general election might hamper the election process.

The party secretary general, Mia Golam Parwar, made the remarks in a statement.

He said that BNP’s demand to exclude officials of various service-oriented and non-political organisations, including Islami Bank, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Islami Bank Hospital and Ibn Sina Hospital, from election duties was irrational.

The Jamaat leader expressed concern over the demand of the BNP.

He said that the BNP’s October 23 demand was politically motivated, irrational and totally unacceptable.

The people believe that if political parties continue to make baseless allegations against service-oriented and non-political institutions in this manner, it will create an atmosphere of uncertainty and disorder over the holding of the elections, he said.

‘If the Election Commission entertains such trivial, politically motivated, and misleading allegations, many more unnecessary demands may arise in the future, which could hamper the electoral process,’ he said.

He said that there was no question about the neutrality of the officials of the organisations.

The Jamaat leader urged the Election Commission not to entertain such a demand by the BNP.
