A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, en route to London from Sylhet, made an emergency landing in Istanbul on Thursday after a passenger fell seriously ill mid-air.
Flight BG 201, operated by the national flag carrier, departed Sylhet for London in the morning.
During the flight, a passenger named Shah Shamsun Nehar Rahman became critically unwell, prompting the flight crew to take immediate action.
Assessing the urgency of the situation, the pilot-in-command declared a medical emergency and diverted the aircraft to Istanbul for an emergency landing, Biman said in a press release issued in the evening.
Upon arrival in Istanbul, the ill passenger and two accompanying travellers disembarked from the aircraft to receive necessary medical attention.
Biman authorities reaffirmed their commitment to prioritising passenger safety and wellbeing, and said that standard procedures were followed in handling the mid-air emergency.
