
At least eight people sustained serious burn injuries in a hydraulic explosion at an iron depot in Chattogram city on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred around 7:30pm on Sagorika Road under the Pahartali police when a hydraulic machine exploded in the depot, leaving the workers and contractors severely injured, said Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Sub-inspector Nurul Alam Ashek.
He said that local people rescued the victims and rushed them to the hospital and had them admitted to burn unit Ward 36.
The injured were identified as Abdul Kader, 60, son of late Sirajul Haque; Abul Kasem, 60, son of late Sabir Ahmed; main contractor Md Karim, 29, son of Rafique of Chauddagram in Cumilla; Abdul Jalil, 55, son of Kofil Uddin of Pahartali in Chattogram; Abul Bashar Khan, 60, son of Demser Ali Khan of Akbar Shah area; Jamal Hossain, 38, son of Abul Bashar Khan; Md Russell, 28, son of Abdul Samad; and Bahar Uddin, 45, son of Nazir Ahmed of Chandraganj in Lakshmipur.
