The transport and communication sector has received the highest allocation in the development component of the proposed national budget for the 2025–2026 financial year.
The sector received the highest budgetary allocation for the 13th consecutive year.
Apart from road, railways, waterways and aviation sub-sectors, the transport and communication sector also includes post and telecommunication in the budget.
For the new financial year, the proportion allocated for the sector is 23.9 per cent of the budget which was 25 per cent in the outgoing FY24–25, 27.3 per cent in FY23–24, 27 per cent in FY22–23, and 25.8 per cent in FY21-22.
