The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre on Thursday assessed that the flood situation in the low-lying areas of Sylhet division, especially in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Moulvibazar districts, was expected to improve if the decrease in the water level of Surma-Kushiyara rivers continued over the next 72 hours.

The assessment also included that the water levels of the Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers were rising till Thursday afternoon.

Over the next 24 hours, the water level of the Brahmaputra River is expected to remain steady, while the water level of the Jamuna River is likely to continue rising, the FFWC bulletin said.

The bulletin also said that areas along the river such as Chilmari, Fulchhari, Bhuapur and Sirajganj might be affected in the next 24 hours.

The water level of Ganges-Padma tributaries would continue to rise in the next five days but remain below the danger level, the bulletin added.
