The Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad on Thursday demanded the withdrawal of 10 per cent tax imposed on Workers Welfare Fund in the proposed budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

They also demanded that the interim government take immediate steps to ensure Eid bonuses and payment of workers’ wages for the month of May before the day of Eid-ul-Azha, scheduled to be celebrated across Bangladesh on June 7.

The SKOP leaders in a joint statement also recommended special allocation for workers’ food, medical treatment and social safety.

Finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed presented the budget on June 2.

SKOP leaders said that the proposed budget ignored the chief adviser’s zero-poverty and zero-unemployment policies.

‘There is no reflection of the recommendations by the Labour Reform Commission,’ they said.

According to their observation, the proposed budget offered nothing significant for the news workers and rehabilitation of the existing child labourers and their poor families.

SKOP leaders including Anwar Hossain, Ashiqul Alam, Abdul Quader Hawlader and Rajekuzzaman Ratan made the statement.
