The Police on Tuesday stopped a Left Democratic Alliance march towards the home ministry at Purana Paltan crossing in Bangladesh capital Dhaka.
The LDA, a combination of six political parties, began the march after a short rally in front of the National Press Club protesting against rampant corruption.
Their demands also included arrest of looters responsible for loan defaults and siphoning of money, including former army chief retired general Aziz Ahmed, former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed and removed National Board of Revenue official Matiur Rahman,
Prior to the rally, leaders and activists had started their march towards the home ministry; police stopped the protesters making a fence barricade at Purna Paltan crossing.
At the rally in front of the National Press Club, coordinator of the party and also general secretary of Socialist Party of Bangladesh Bazlur Rashid Firoz said that the Awami League government had introduced mass corruptions in the country.
Corrupt former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, former army chief Aziz Ahmed and NBR official Matiur Rahman had proven that government officials were involved in corrupt behaviour, looting money of banks and siphoning the money abroad, Bazlur Rashid Firoz said.
He called on the government to take immediate steps to stop mass corruptions and arrest the looters.
LDA will hold a sit in programme in front of the ACC on July 16th demanding steps against corruption, Bazlur announced.
Chaired by Bazlur Rashid Firoz, acting president of Communist Party of Bangladesh Shahin Rahman, Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, Revolutionary Communist League general secretary Iqbal Kabir Jahid and Samajtantrik Party acting president Abdul Ali and others spoke at the rally.
