Bangladesh Election Commission senior secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Sunday said that the final voter list would be published and the expatriate voter registration app would be launched on November 18.
‘Earlier, we wanted to launch the Expatriate Voter Registration App on November 16. Now instead of November 16, we will launch this app [Postal Vote BD] on November 18. We will also publish the final voter list on November 18,’ he told reporters at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon area.
About the hunger strike of Aam Janata Party member secretary Tarique Rahman in front of the EC building, Akhtar Ahmed said that legally, they had said through a letter. ‘Now they can appeal and fill the deficiencies. Appeal or amendment or modification, extension of time, these are a common practice. So they will definitely take it into consideration and I sincerely appeal to them to break this hunger strike.’
He said they can appeal to the senior secretary or the secretary of the commission if they want. They can apply for reconsideration, correction, exclusion.
If they apply, whether the commission will take it into consideration or not is another matter, he added.
Regarding the election dialogue with political parties, he said, ‘We are waiting for the dialogue and will fix the time for the dialogue once we receive the gazette of the code of conduct for candidates and political parties.’
