The Election Commission has published the draft voter list for 2025 -- after carrying out an extensive update -- disclosing a total of 12,61,70,900 registered voters nationwide as of June 30.
During the update, 45,71,216 new voters, born on or before January 1, 2007, were added. At the same time, the names of 21,32,590 deceased voters were removed from the list, ensuring greater accuracy in the electoral roll.
The Election Commission on Sunday published the draft supplementary voter list at the Election Commission offices in all relevant upazilas and thanas.
This draft figure represents an increase of 24,38,626 voters from the 12,37,32,274 recorded on March 2.
Those who have any claims or objections regarding the draft list are required to submit those within the next 12 days, Election Commission senior secretary Akhtar Ahmed told reporters.
Once these concerns have been addressed, the final voter list is scheduled for publication on August 31, he said.
After the updating, the final voter numbers as of June 30 stood at 64,006,916 men, 62,162,760 women, and 1,224 transgender persons.
The update revealed that the number of women voters added exceeds that of men, with 2,707,620 female voters included in the draft, compared to 1,870,203 male voters.
Additionally, 251 voters have been registered under the transgender – Hijra – category.
The Election Commission has also decided that individuals turning 18 between January and October 31, 2025 will be added to the voter list.
These young voters will be eligible to vote in the upcoming national election. A supplementary list containing their details will be published on or after October 31, which is expected to further increase the total number of voters nationwide, the EC officials said.
