
Five consecutive shows of Mother Courage and Her Children, a theatre production of drama and dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University, was held between Wednesday and Friday at the university’s Zahir Raihan Auditorium.
The event aimed to raise funds for JU cancer patient student Churanta Saha, who is battling a rare cancer, sinonasal carcinoma.
Mother Courage and Her Children, written by German playwright Bertolt Brecht, has been directed by the university’s drama and dramatics department associate professor Reza Arif.
Churanto Saha, a drama and dramatics student, has been undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in India’s Bengaluru since November.
Performed by students of the department, all shows were housefull, said Reza Arif.
The play, set in 17th-century Europe during the Thirty Years’ War, revolves around a woman named Anna Fierling and her family. She has a food cart and sells goods to soldiers.
The war claimed the lives of her two sons Elif and Swiss Cheese and daughter Kattrin.
Anna Fierling begins to loathe war. However, she wishes the war to continue, realising that she will become unemployed if the war ends.
